Whats your favourite country?

When travel comes up in conversation and people learn we’re nearly halfway through visiting every country in the world, there’s one question that always follows, “What’s your favorite country?” My answer never changes. I don’t have one!

Each trip is so unique that it’s impossible to pick a single country that ticks all the boxes. Instead, my favorites are based on the experience itself rather than the destination alone. That said, there are certainly countries where I could imagine living, Thailand, Georgia, Italy and South Africa, so perhaps those come closest to claiming the “favorite” title.

To add some fun to the conversation and actually answer the question, I’ve put together my top 5 rankings across different categories: food, architecture, cities, and more. This way, you’ll get a better sense of what makes each destination special in its own right.

Top 6 Trips:

At the start of this post I mentioned I actually rank my favourites by trips rather then countries so here are my top 6 favourite trips we have done. (I couldn’t choose 5!)

1: Russia, Mongolia and China – We did the trans Siberian trip from Saint Petersburg to Beijing in winter, reaching -40C in some places, this was my all time favourite trip we have done

2: 5 Stans – We did a tour through the 5 stans, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

3: South Africa, Garden route self drive with Safari from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth.

4: National Geographic Tour of Nepal

5: Trip around the Caucasus: Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan.

6: Self Drive around Jordan.

Note: My all time favourite trip is of course of wedding trip we did around Sri Lanka, Maldives and Malaysia however considering it was for our wedding I feel it has an unfair advantage over the others due to its sentiment.
